Transfer News: Tottenham never came close to landing Patrick Bamford
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham were never close to signing Patrick Bamford from Leeds United. Instead, he has now signed a long term deal with the club until 2026 and only wanted to remain with the Whites despite all the speculation.
Leeds United were definitely a side to watch in their return to the Premier League. They played oddball tactics and had the capability to stun opponents with their energy. Among the group, there were definitely some that stood out and Bamford was one of them. He led the side with guile and gusto to fire Leeds into the top half of the table with his goals.
Spurs should be searching for a striker regardless of Harry Kane’s future. The squad does not have another senior striker after the departure of Carlos Vinicius. Hence, among the targets was the Leeds striker. His 17 league goals seemed to have appealed to Spurs to get him as a potential partner or backup for Kane.
However, any links Spurs had with Bamford can be quashed now. Journalist Fabrizio Romano cleared the air that Spurs were not even close to signing Bamford. Even Bamford wanted to remain at Elland Road and now he has put pen to paper on a significantly long term contract with the club.

Bamford has developed a good rapport with the club and it was honestly hard to see him leave. Spurs haven’t really missed out on Bamford given they were never really close to signing him. For now, Spurs’ striker search continues as they still scour through Europe for another goal scorer that can possibly replace or maybe partner Kane if he stays.
