Tottenham handed blow in pursuit of Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez

Speaking to DAZN (h/t football.london), Inter Milan CEO Guiseppe Marotta has claimed that star striker Lautaro Martinez is set to stay at the club amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Martinez has been with Inter Milan for three years now, having arrived from Argentine outfit Racing Club. The 23-year-old has grown into one of the top centre-forwards in Serie A, and played a key role in their Serie A title triumph last season.

Tottenham had been heavily linked with a move for the Argentine international, with football.london even claiming that the north London giants had agreed a fee with Inter over a move. However, Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Chelsea from the Nerazzurri threw a spanner into the works for Spurs.

Now, Inter Milan CEO, Marotta has confirmed that Martinez has decided to stay at the club and will not be leaving San Siro in the current transfer window.

“Lautaro Martinez has decided to stay at Inter, he strongly wants to stay also with many clubs approaching us with official bids to sign Lautaro. We’re so proud.”

This will come as a major blow for Tottenham. Irrespective of what the future holds for superstar Harry Kane, Spurs need to bring in another centre-forward at any cost this summer.

Carlos Vinicius was not signed permanently after his loan deal expired, meaning Kane is without any cover in the No. 9 slot. While Son Heung-min has filled in as the centre-forward in the first few games, it is important a natural striker be brought in.

Martinez, to that end, would have been a fine addition for the Lilywhites. However, it looks like the Argentine will not be leaving Inter Milan anytime soon.
