Nuno hails Tottenham star Harry Kane after first appearance of the season
Speaking to the media after his team beat Wolves (h/t The Guardian), Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised star striker Harry Kane after he made his first appearance of the season.
The 28-year-old had not featured for Spurs in the pre-season after having had extended holidays due to his involvement at the Euros. After returning, Kane had to quarantine which meant he returned to training late, which led to him missing the season opener against Manchester City and the midweek UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Pacos de Ferreira.
All this was happening with the backdrop of Manchester City’s interest in signing the Tottenham superstar. On Sunday, though, Kane got his first taste of on-field action under new manager Nuno. Coming on in the 72nd minute to replace Son Heung-min, the Englishman had a chance to score, but was denied by Wolves’ goalkeeper Jose Sa.
That did not hurt Tottenham, though, as they finished 1-0 winners on the evening, courtesy of Dele Alli’s first-half penalty. And speaking about Kane after the game, Nuno was full of praise for the England captain’s quality, insisting that he is still returning to his peak fitness.
“He did well, he helped the team. He is still in the process of improving his fitness. But he is one of the best players in the world. You can see he helped the team in possession. He’s better today and he’ll be better tomorrow. He can still improve, we cannot put a bar on that.”

Nuno also claimed that he was happy with the way the Tottenham fans greeted Kane when he came on, adding that it is important that fans stick together.
“I was pleased with the attitude of the fans. We have to be together. We have amazing fans and have to be thankful for that.”
While it is certainly great news for Tottenham fans to see Kane back out on the field, it still remains to be seen if he stays at the club beyond the summer transfer window.
