Transfer News: Tottenham consider £8.5m bid for Domingos Duarte
According to transfer news from Spanish publication IDEAL (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are considering making an opening offer of £8.5m for Granada’s Domingos Duarte.
Tottenham have already strengthened their defensive unit this summer with the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta. In addition to the Argentine international, the north London giants have also signed Pierluigi Gollini, also from Atalanta, and Bryan Gil from Sevilla.
Now, Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo are readying a move for their fourth signing of the summer with Duarte emerging as an option. The 26-year-old Portuguese defender has been with Granada since 2019, having arrived from Portuguese giants Sporting CP.
During his time with the Nazaries, the centre-back has grown into a regular fixture in the starting XI, while he recently broke into the Portuguese national team as well.
Tottenham have managed to keep two clean sheets in their first two league games of the 2021/22 season. However, it seems like manager Nuno is keen on adding another centre-back to the contingent of new signing Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon.
Considering how inconsistent Dier and Sanchez have been in the past, it would be a wise move to shore up the defence with another reliable option. Duarte, now, has seemingly emerged as a transfer target for the Portuguese tactician.
The Granada defender has a release clause worth £26m, but as per the report, Spurs are plotting an opening offer of just £8.5m. With two years still on his contract, it is unlikely that the La Liga would be accepting such a low sum.

If Spurs are serious about landing the Portuguese international, they must realise that the offer is way too low. With the transfer window entering the final week, the time for haggling is no more. The club must go out and get the player that they want.
