Transfer News: Tottenham emerge as shock destination for Cristiano Ronaldo
According to transfer news from Michele Criscitiello of Sport Italia (h/t Express), Tottenham have emerged as a shock destination for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star has been mooted to leave the club this season. Several clubs such as PSG and both Manchester clubs have emerged as options.
A legend of the game, it was during his days in the Premier League that Cristiano Ronaldo rose to prominence. He was a dazzling presence during his six years at Manchester United. His move to Real Madrid catapulted him into greatness where he won all there was to be won and scored goals for fun.
However, the last three seasons at Juventus have been underwhelming in his standards of course. That has led to a lot of speculation over his future in recent months over his future. Amidst all that, the 36-year-old sent out a social media post reiterating his commitment to Juventus but was seen missing from the starting XI for the Serie A opener against Udinese.
His agent, Jorge Mendes has supposedly been trying to find potential buyers for his client. With just a year left on his current deal, he could be available for a fee of £25million. However, his wages would need to be considered as well. While PSG and both Manchester clubs have been touted as potential suitors, it is rather surprising and shocking that Tottenham are also among those names.
Here is what Michele Criscitiello of Sport Italia (via Express) had to say.
“Since he came back we have said it, there is a clear will on the part of #Allegri not wanting to start again with #Ronaldo and viceversa. The cycle of CR7 in black and white is over, confirmation has arrived in Udine. Even the #Tottenham [is a] possible destination.”

Quite what one wants to make of these links is a wild guess. Stranger things have happened in football but if one were to be realistic, Spurs are in no position to go after Ronaldo. He is already 36 and has a significant wage packet. Spurs need to be looking to build a new side for the future at this point.
