Transfer News: Tottenham outcast Serge Aurier wanted by Lille
According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Lille have expressed a desire to sign Serge Aurier from Tottenham Hotspur. They are said to move for him if Atletico Madrid moves for Zeki Celik. The Ligue 1 side have sent in a proposal for Aurier as well.
It’s not been an easy road for Aurier at Spurs in the four seasons he has been at the club. Initially, he had to play second fiddle to Kieran Trippier but took up the mantle once he left for Atletico. However, Aurier left a lot to be desired on most occasions and was not the most consistent players when it came to defensive duties.
Last season, he had to share the responsibilities with Matt Doherty but neither impressed really in the role. However, with the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo, there is a good chance he sticks with Doherty, a player he has previously worked with at Wolved. Spurs were, hence, looking to offload the player.
While they were initially not receiving any offers, Lille have now come to the rescue. The French side could be about to lose Zeki Celik to Atletico Madrid. That means Spurs have received an offer from Lille for Aurier as claimed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Celik’s departure could also trigger a move for Aurier.
Atletico Madrid have opened talks for Zeki Çelik as new RB – he’s one of the options. Tottenham have received an approach from Lille for Serge Aurier in case Çelik will leave. ⚪️ #THFC #Atleti
Tottenham are also progressing in talks for Moussa Sissoko to Watford. It’s close.

Houssem Aouar and Weston McKennie not priority deals for Tottenham
It shouldn’t hurt Spurs that much if they allow Aurier to depart. They already have Doherty as an option and Tanganga as cover. With Tanganga impressing in the initial weeks, it means a replacement for the 28-year-old Aurier might not be required. Now, Spurs will have to play the waiting game to see if this transfer cascade goes through.
