Harry Kane backed to become the record goalscorer for England

According to the Mirror, Harry Kane has been backed to become the record goalscorer for England by manager Gareth Southgate. The Three Lions captain is on 40 goals and is well on course to break the record Wayne Rooney set with his 53 goals.

The international break is almost done with just one more game left to be played for the WC Qualifiers. A lot of our stars have been in action (and drama) but it would seem that Harry Kane is slowly creeping up on a huge record. The Tottenham star is currently on 40 goals from 63 games which is a remarkable stat.

He has the chance to add a lot more to that over the next few years as he closes in on Wayne Rooney’s 53 goals. Kane was on target against Hungary and came off the bench against Andorra to bag another goal. There is a good chance he starts against Poland on Wednesday and keeps up the good form to help England solidify the top spot in Group I.

Southgate backs Kane to keep firing the goals

With goals flowing from Kane and England, his manager Gareth Southgate has backed the striker to go ahead and become the record goalscorer for England. He also spoke about Kane being ready to perform whenever called up.

“He is certainly on track to do that. Let’s hope he stays fit and if he plays the games, I don’t see that record not being broken. The only insight I can give you is that when I suggested putting him on he was stood by my side about three-and-a-half seconds later with his tracksuit top off and his tie-ups on, and he was ready.”

Kane is still 28 and has a good number of years ahead of him. He has had no major injury problems and has shown zero signs of slowing down. With 14 more goals to get, it is very likely Kane break the record and possibly adds a few more to it.
