Tottenham starlet Alfie Devine takes a jab at Liverpool

Tottenham starlet Alfie Devine did not spare the chance to take a swipe at his former club Liverpool (h/t Liverpool Echo). The midfielder was on target twice as the Spurs U-23’s were in action against their Liverpool counterparts and Devine made sure to make his feelings clear on social media.

Devine is a product of the Liverpool academy but was released fairly early at the age of 11. He went on to join Wigan soon after and continued his development there till last year. Spurs managed to get Devine in 2020 for a cut-price deal of £300,000 as Wigan had financial problems. The midfielder was drafted to the U-17’s straightaway.

Since then, he has made good progress and was even handed a game for the senior side last season in the FA Cup. A goal on debut was a good way to grab the headlines apart from the fact that he was the youngest player to play for the club. Devine has continued to develop for the academy so far.

This season, he was bumped up to the U-23’s and has made four appearances already. In the last game, Spurs faced Liverpool in a U-23’s game and Devine made some telling contributions against his former side. His two goals were decisive to hand a 2-1 win to Spurs and then the striker made sure he reminded Liverpool of what they missed out on social media (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Devine has a bright future in the game and he is still just 17 years of age. There are likely to be more chances this season for him because the door to the first team is always open. Oliver Skipp is one such example to make the jump from the academy.
