Transfer News: Tottenham suffer blow in chase for Franck Kessie

According to transfer news from Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Football.london), Tottenham could be about to face a huge problem in their pursuit of Franck Kessie. AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is confident that his star midfielder will remain with the club and that talks are underway over a new deal.

Spurs wanted to bolster their midfield over the summer and they did manage to get Pape Sarr. However, he is one for the future and Spurs could use someone who can slot into the side straight away. It’s for that reason they have been keeping tabs on Franck Kessie of AC Milan for a while now.

Kessie is a target for Spurs

The Ivorian midfielder is an all-action presence on the side which means he can chip in with the goals and shield his defence. He was a huge reason AC Milan made the climb up the Serie A table right towards the second spot. Another reason he has been a target for Spurs is that his contract ends in less than a year.

However, that pursuit could be about to take a serious blow as it has come to the fore that he is in talks with Milan over a new deal. Manager Stefano Pioli wanted to keep the midfielder and echoed the above statement.

“I would like Kessie to sign. The negotiations go on between the club and his agent, I don’t think this is the time to worry. With Franck I only talk about matters relating to the pitch and I always see him as positive and serene, there are no problems.”

From the looks of it, it would seem that a new contract is more likely for Kessie. That does not spell good news for Spurs who have been keen on the midfielder. He could have been a huge coup, especially as a free agent. However, Tottenham will now have to wait for those contract talks to reach a conclusion.
