Transfer News: Tottenham will have to pay £85m after Lautaro Martinez signs new deal
According to transfer news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham will have to pay an increased amount for Lautaro Martinez next season. The Argentine striker could pen a new deal with Inter Milan and that will increase his valuation to £85m. Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on the situation.
Not so long ago Harry Kane had put Tottenham in a spot of bother by asking to leave. Hence, Spurs and Fabio Paratici went after a logical solution which was to look at strikers in the transfer market. Spurs eventually stumbled upon Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan. The 24-year-old had burst onto the scene in recent seasons.
Martinez capped off a splendid season for club and country by winning the Serie A and Copa America. Spurs actually got pretty close to signing Martinez by making offers but the sale of Romelu Lukauku meant that Inter were under no compulsion to sell Martinez as well. However, the north Londoners might feel the sting if they return for him.
The Argentine forward is in talks with Inter over a new five-year deal before this season ends. That will result in Inter asking for a significantly increased transfer fee of £85m. By no means is that a small amount in this economic climate. Spurs and Arsenal, the clubs who have kept tabs on him, might have second thoughts if the new deal is agreed.

Martinez is a striker who is yet to hit his prime years but he already looks the real deal. It’s not clear if Spurs plan to return for him but if they do, it will be a move that burns a hole in their pocket. A lot of that will be dependent on Kane’s future as well.
