Transfer News: Barcelona interested in Tottenham star Cristian Romero

According to a surprising bit of transfer news from Fichajes (h/t Football.london), Barcelona have shown interest in signing Tottenham new boy Cristian Romero. The Spanish giants had been after the Romero in the summer bur Spurs managed to edge them out.

Cristian Romero was a man in demand this summer. He had made a name for himself at Atalanta as a tough-tackling defender. However, the summer’s Copa America made sure all the top clubs took notice. He played a huge part in keeping things tidy at the back for Argentina while the forwards did their work to win the coveted trophy.

Spurs needed a new defender after the departure of Toby Alderweireld. So they made efforts to get a hold of Romero and they got him for a significant outlay of £42million. Romero has already started a game for the side and also made a brief cameo in the Premier League against Manchester City.

However, in what can only be termed as rather surprising, Barcelona are planning to reignite their interest in Romero. They want to refresh their defensive options and see Romero as the one to do so. The Argentine was actually persuaded by Lionel Messi to join Barcelona but he left the club while Romero went on to join us.

It’s rather bizarre to even think of catering to Barcelona’s interest. Romero is likely to be the player Spurs build their defence around. He is one of the brightest young names in his position and selling him is out of the equation. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona really follow up on this.
