Transfer News: Tottenham can sign Houssem Aouar on one condition
According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham can sign Houssem Aouar next season only if Lyon fail to qualify for the Champions League. Spurs were interested in the midfielder this season but passed up on that chance. Arsenal were also after Aouar and could revisit their interest.
Houssem Aouar has been hot property since 2020. After all, he had helped Lyon make a fairytale run up to the Champions League semifinals. His smooth style of passing and dribbling had caught the attention of a few clubs and they have been after him since. During this summer, Spurs and rivals Arsenal were after the Frenchman (h/t Express).
However, both sides went in different directions with regard to new midfielders. Spurs signed Pape Sarr while Arsenal signed Martin Odegaard. That left Aouar to keep pushing for a Champions League campaign at Lyon. The midfielder has claimed that he wants to play in the tournament and that could result in a move.
Lyon have not qualified for the Champions League twice in successive seasons. Should Lyon fail to do so again this season, Tottenham will be left with a clear shot at him next summer (h/t Express). That will also mean that the Lilywhites would have to make it to the competition themselves.

A major creative presence in the middle, Aouar can fill in the void left by someone like Christian Eriksen. He is capable of linking the midfield and attack which Spurs lack in their current crop of midfielders. However, getting Aouar comes with a lot of conditions and the only thing they can do is play their part in making it to the top four places.
