Transfer News: Tottenham receive a blow in pursuit of Lorenzo Pellegrini
According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.london), Tottenham could miss out on the signing of Lorenzo Pellegrini. The Roma midfielder could be offered a new contract by the club meaning that he could end up staying back in Italy.
In all honesty, Tottenham look a really tepid side. The whole free-flowing football has not been there for a while now and even this season Spurs have struggled to get the ball in the net. Only three sides have scored fewer than the three the Lilywhites this season. Spurs have finished the chances they have gotten, their three wins are proof of that.
However, they have failed to create them at a regular rate. Much of that can be attributed to the lack of a natural playmaker or number 10. Dele Alli was once tasked with those duties but he has not been at his best. Hence, Spurs were looking at potential options such as Lorenzo Pellegrini over the summer.
He was understood to be admired by Fabio Paratici and also had a modest release clause of £25.9million. With Spurs failing to get the Italian over the summer, they might have lost their chance. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Pellegrini is close to signing a new contract with Roma which could rule out a potential move.

Spurs could end up ruing the fact that they did not get Pellegrini this season. A new contract more often than not makes it harder to prise away a player. For now, Spurs can only wait to see if he does end up signing a new deal.
