Transfer News: Tottenham set to rival Chelsea for Jules Kounde
According to transfer news from Transfer Market Web (h/t Football.london), Tottenham are all set to rival Chelsea for the signing of Jules Kounde. The French youngster has been in demand from a host of clubs and the London duo of Spurs and Arsenal are the latest in line to go after him.
It looked really close and yet it did not happen. Chelsea’s chase for Jules Kounde was a well-documented one over the summer and it looked that a deal would go through sooner or later. However, Sevilla made a last-minute swerve and decided that they want to be paid the full release clause amount of €80million.
Chelsea baulked at that and the deal collapsed. The youngster is said to be furious over the whole saga. However, regardless of Chelsea following up their interest in the Sevilla defender, Tottenham and Arsenal have come into the fray for his signature. The north London rivals are just two of the several clubs that are keen on the defender.
It is believed that Tottenham even had a bid turned down for Kounde in the summer. The Frenchman is a talented young defender who has won the Europa League in 2019/20 and helped Sevilla to a top-four finish last season. He has also made his bow for France at a relatively young age.

If his current development trajectory is anything to go by, he has a bright future in the game. Despite the interest from the London duo, it’s not clear whether he is keen on joining them. It will be one to keep an eye out for as the player wants to move but clubs might shirk a bit at that significant release clause.
