Gary Neville gives his verdict on Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Gary Neville was of the opinion that Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele will never be fully appreciated at the club. The Manchester United legend spoke about the Frenchman’s talent but felt that he is rather inconsistent.
It was a significant moment against Rennes last week as Tanguy Ndombele made his much-anticipated return to the side. He retained his place over the weekend as well as Spurs lost to Chelsea. In both games, Ndombele encapsulated what he is facing issues at the club. At times he impressed with his trickery but cut a forlorn figure for the rest of the time.
It has often posed the question as to whether Ndombele can really make it that the club. It has been more than two years he has been here but has failed to nail down a spot in the side. He has fallen out with Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo as well.
On seeing his recent displays, Premier League legend Gary Neville spoke about his fluctuating form.
“I don’t know what you make of him. I don’t think anybody does. He’s one of those players that you watch and you think he’s a fantastic, technical football player. He takes the ball in difficult situations, he dribbles with it, he beats people. And then you sort of don’t see him then for maybe four minutes, six minutes, eight minutes and wonder where he is.”
Neville went on to add that players like Ndombele fare better in other leagues and he might not be fully appreciated at Spurs.
“I watch Ndombele and think there’s a lot of players like him in Spain, in Italy. Sometimes they fit those leagues better. I don’t think he’ll ever be appreciated fully over here because he doesn’t fit into a position or a type.”
