Eric Dier speaks out on what went wrong for Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea

According to Football.london, Eric Dier was of the opinion that Tottenham Hotspur lost the plot after Chelsea scored the second goal. He felt that Spurs could have done much better but it was really sloppy from them in the latter half.

It really was a game of two halves as Chelsea amped it up in the second half of the London derby. Spurs did a commendable job to keep the proceedings even for the first 45 minutes. However, some substitutions and luck sent the game in Chelsea’s favour. Thiago Silva’s goal was well taken but it was really the second goal that knocked the wind out of Spurs’ sails.

N’Golo Kante took a shot from distance but it took a wild deflection off Dier to wrong foot Hugo Lloris and the ball crept in via the post. That was enough to seal the game in Spurs’ favour and another late goal was added by Antonio Rudiger. Spurs showed grit but it really was after the break that they lost it.

Dier elaborated on where it went wrong for Spurs

Eric Dier, who was at the centre of it all, spoke about the whole situation and how the game went out of their hands in the second half.

“It really was a game of two halves. We played very well in the first half and we have to focus on that, take the positives from that and build on it. Second half, they were the better team. We conceded the first goal very early in the second half and then lacked a bit of control to stay in the game and not concede the second.”

The 27-year-old English defender went on to add that all the goals conceded were sloppy and should have been dealt with much better.

“[We needed to] try to build and get back to the way were playing. But we conceded again and it became very difficult. We lacked that [control] a little bit but they were sloppy goals, all three of them. We can do so much better.”

It was another disappointing outing for Spurs as they failed to pick up a win. This was the third consecutive game that they failed to do so as pressure mounts on everyone. For now, they will be hoping to avoid another loss as they take on Wolves in the EFL Cup as it would mean elimination from the competition.
