Jamie O’Hara compares Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele to Adel Taarabt
According to talkSport (h/t Football.London), former Tottenham Hotspur star Jamie O’Hara has compared underfire Tanguy Ndombele to former Spurs midfielder Adel Taarabt.
The Frenchman joined Spurs for a club-record fee in 2019 but has failed to make a lasting impact at the club. While he has had his moments, Ndombele has had more misses than hits. Little appears to have changed under Nuno Espirito Santo and despite appearances, he has flattered to deceive.
O’Hara has gone on to label Ndombele a flop. For all his abilities, he has titled the Frenchman a liability he would not want to play alongside. Perhaps tellingly, he goes on to compare the 24-year-old to Taarabt.
“I’m not having him. He’s not for me. If I played in midfield with him, he would drive me mad.”
Taarabt was an enigmatic player who arrived at Spurs from Lens in 2007. He originally spent a season on loan at the Lane before the deal was made permanent in 2008. The Moroccan was a prodigious player who could do the inconceivable but he never quite fulfilled his potential.
“He reminds me of a lad called Adel Taarabt who, he came in at Spurs, went to QPR and had a great season, ends up at AC Milan. Unbelievable ability, can do anything with a football where you go ‘wow’ but will cost the team every single week.”
Now 32, Taarabt never became the world-beater he promised to be and is currently at Benfica. He made just 15 appearances for Tottenham in his three years at the club, failing to register a single goal or assist.
Ndombele has often been accused of putting up Jekyll and Hyde performances in the same game. For every jaw-dropping piece of skill he displayed, there is an equally mystifying moment of madness.
While Nuno Espirito Santo was diplomatic in his opinion of Ndombele, O’Hara has come out punching. It is clear that the former Spurs star is no fan of the Frenchman. Whether Ndombele can prove him otherwise remains to be seen.
“I think that has been a big mistake, £60million that’s a lot of money. I think he’s been a flop.”

Ndombele has made 78 appearances for Spurs in all competitions. During that time he has scored nine goals and made eight assists. A far cry from what was expected of him when he arrived at the club.
