Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo reveals his side did not follow the game-plan
Speaking in the post-match press conference (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo revealed his side failed to follow the ‘game-plan’ laid out by him against Arsenal.
Tottenham suffered a horrible 3-1 defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates on Sunday as Bukayo Saka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Emile Smith Rowe got onto the scoresheet. However, the visitors did retaliate in the second half.
Nuno got into his side during halftime, and there was a lot more intensity. Harry Kane had a penalty call rejected while Heung-Min Son also found the back of the net before Lucas Moura forced a brilliant save from Aaron Ramsdale.
However, the former Wolves boss was not impressed with his side on the day and went on to clarify that they could not follow his ‘game-plan’. He told reporters after the game (h/t Express):
“The performance was not good, the gameplan was not good, the decisions were not good, it was not a good day for us, definitely not a good day. I’m not going to individually tell you what decisions I didn’t do right but the gameplan was not according to the players on the pitch.
“That’s another issue [players not doing what he asks]. I’ll not say they’re not doing what I’m telling them to do. They’re not able to do it, credit to the opponent because they were better than us.”

This loss was Spurs’ third league defeat of the season, which is a shock given that they won their first three games. Moreover, the manner of defeat would have hurt more as they have conceded three times in the last three league games.
With the club now in the bottom half of the table, a reaction will be expected when they play their 2nd UEFA Europa Conference League group game against Slovenian club NS Mura on Thursday night.
