Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur could try and sign 28-year-old Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.
In recent years Spurs have been known to rely heavily on Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane. The English striker’s long-term future at the club could be at stake with recurring interest from Manchester City. The Lilywhites could thus be looking at other options to bolster their attacking lineup.
Icardi can provide a great option for Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine striker came through La Masia and made a name for himself at Inter Milan where he scored 124 goals and provided 28 assists in 219 matches across all competitions for the Serie A club. Fellow rivals Liverpool were interested in bringing the player to Anfield in 2019 but the love eventually fell off.
The former Inter striker eventually joined the Parisians on loan and later made his move to Parc des Princes permanent. The 28-year-old Argentine striker has scored 36 goals and provided 10 assists in 72 matches during his time at PSG. Tottenham have been dependent on the 28-year-old English striker who has been one of their most influential players in the forward lineup for Spurs. Despite his clinical abilities in front of goal Kane has struggled to get going this season and is yet to score for the club in the PL.
Nuno Espirito Santo has shown his faith in the Englishman but Fabio Paratici could be looking to add another world-class striker in their ranks. It is believed that both the club will hold talks about the player at the end of the campaign. The Argentine striker’s deal with PSG runs until 2024 which means that the London-based club may have to shell out a significant amount to get hold of the player.
The Lilywhites have has a turbulent start to the campaign. Nuno’s men have had to suffer crucial losses to fellow London rivals like Chelsea and Arsenal. They will be hoping that their latest victory against Aston Villa in the PL can instill renewed hope and enthusiasm at the club. The Argentine may take some time to adapt to England’s top-flight football but could prove to be a great addition to this forward lineup should he make the switch to the North London club.
