Tottenham could be interested in securing a move for 28-year-old Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger
According to transfer news from The Express, Tottenham Hotspur could be in line to sign 28-year-old German defender Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea amidst uncertainty surrounding his contract.
The Blues have witnessed a great turn in fortune ever since Thomas Tuchel took over the club from Frank Lampard. The German manager has helped Chelsea secure the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup ever since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. The West London club are also currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table after 7 games.
Rudiger is an important player in Tuchel’s plan and features regularly under the boss. The 28-year-old defender has played an instrumental part in Chelsea’s success under their current manager by becoming a regular feature in the senior squad.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier has already been partnered with Davison Sanchez, Cristian Romero, and Japhet Tanganga in central defence this season in the Premier League. The Lilywhites have failed to nail down a regular defensive partnership and have suffered huge losses to rival clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal in the PL.
Romero has recently made the move from Atalanta to Spurs on a season-long loan deal with the option to buy for an amount of £42.5million. The 23-year-old may be one of the most promising defenders in Europe but would still take time to settle at the club and get used to the conditions and intensity of the English League. A suitable addition in their defensive ranks could certainly help the Lilywhites to compete at a higher and consistent level.
The 28-year-old defender has got a ton of experience on the biggest stage in Europe and England’s top flight and Spurs could use someone of his quality in their senior squad. Tuchel also made his thoughts known on Rudiger’s current situation with the Blues:
“I hope that they find solutions, but it’s not only between coaches and players, and what we wish for and that’s why it’s between the club, the players, and the agent at the moment. We hope that they find the solution and everything I can say, he plays excellent, and since a long time very consistent, on a very high level.”
It is being believed that the German defender has been offered £125,000 a week from the initial £100,000 a week that he was getting. The Blues coach has urged the club to resolve all its issues and sign a new deal with the player as soon as possible. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are also closely monitoring the situation of the Chelsea central defender.

Spurs were apparently keen on signing him last season and that comes as no real surprise considering the fact an experienced defender like Rudiger could definitely help the club bolster its chances to win silverware this campaign and the next. A defender with his expertise in Europe could also help the team navigate through important fixtures throughout the season.
