Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur target Lautaro Martinez looks set to extend his stay at Inter Milan

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur target Lautaro Martinez looks set to extend his stay at Inter Milan by signing a new contract in the coming days.

The Argentine international is one of the best young strikers in Serie A and Europe. He has enjoyed a good start to the current season and has scored five goals in eight games.

Spurs were keen on the 24-year-old following speculation that Harry Kane was seeking a move-out. However, the English skipper stayed put and the North Londoners did not move for another striker in the summer.

The striker’s current deal at the San Siro runs until 2023. Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta remains adamant that the forward’s future lies with the club. With Romelu Lukaku now not at the club, Martinez could very well be the face of the club for years to come.

“We are going to announce his extension within ten days, he is the future of Inter and we want to keep him at the club.”

He goes on to admit that the player is set to sign an extension in the coming ten days. This could mean bad news for Spurs who will need another striker should Kane eventually seek a move out next summer.

It has been a mixed year for Inter who won the Scudetto but were forced to part with some of their crown jewels in the transfer window. Martinez too was linked with a move away but stayed put. It has been mentioned that Martinez’s new deal could see him extend his stay at the club by five years. Whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen.

Tottenham once again go into a season with no dependable options behind Kane in the striking pecking order. Whether or not the striker, stays, the club will need to add more options to their arsenal. With the door for Martinez closing shut, who will now catch the club’s attention remains to be seen.
