Spurs have been lacking the attacking threat in front of goal this campaign. Star striker Harry Kane is yet to open his goal-scoring account for the Lilywhites in the Premier League this season.
Spurs have witnessed a very rocky start to the campaign this season as their last PL victory against Aston Villa was a breath of fresh air for a team that conceded 3 continuous defeats prior to that. The North London club would be wanting to continue their winning form against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Tottenham could be handed a boost as Nuno Espirito Santo had some encouraging words when asked about the fitness of Dutch international Steven Bergwijn.
Nuno Espirito Santo has spoken up about the 24-year-old forward’s reintegration into the team and his process of recovery:
“He joined us yesterday. He is totally integrated with the group. Trained well yesterday, trained well today. No pain. So it’s about getting back to his highest levels of fitness, but he’s in the process of it.”
Steven’s last match in a Spurs jersey was against French club Stade Rennais F.C. in the UEFA Europa Conference League. This could be a great addition for the North Londoners who would be looking to add as much attacking threat to their squad as possible in their current predicament.
Despite the good signals and recovery, Santo hasn’t confirmed whether the forward will play against the Tyneside-based club.
His response to whether it was too soon for Bergwijn to be in contention for the match against Newcastle the Portuguese manager responded in an ambiguous manner:
“We don’t know, we don’t know, we don’t know, because like I said, first of all we have to be everybody together, then we will assess and prepare and decide.”
