Nuno Espirito Santo claims Tottenham Hotspur lacked aggression in defeat to West Ham United
Speaking after the game (h/t football.london), Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were not good enough offensively in their defeat to West Ham United.
The North London club fell short yet again as a Michail Antonio goal was the difference-maker in the London derby. The team was not all different from the one that faced Newcastle United last weekend, and Harry Kane was expected to start knocking in the goals for Spurs.
However, none of that happened as there was a lack of creativity but also a lack of aggression and intent in front of the goal. Son Heung-min, who can often put the ball in the back of the net with ease, was finding it hard to conjure shots on target. The same can be said for Kane, who was finding it hard to even get a good look at the goal.
Nuno Espirito Santo has now explained Tottenham’s inability to do well in the final third cost them all three points against the Hammers. The Portuguese boss told reporters after the game (h/t football.london):
“The way we conceded but apart from I think that we had a good game, we had possession we had control of the game, we created, besides the counter-attacks of West Ham we didn’t allow many situations.
“We should be better in the offensive box, the chance to be aggressive in that moment of the game. This is my thought.”

The goal scored by Antonio was also one of the laziest pieces of defending done by Spurs as Kane, who was marking the Jamaican, did not even move to block the shot.
The Lilywhites had a chance to finish in the Top 4 by the end of the weekend but are now 6th in the table as they prepare to face Burnley in the EFL Cup in midweek.
