Tottenham Hotspur board hold emergency talks regarding Nuno Espirito Santo and a sacking could be imminent
According to The Telegraph (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager, Nuno Espirito Santo could be sacked as early as today as the club’s hierarchy are set to have an emergency meeting regarding the Portuguese tactician’s fate.
The 47-year-old replaced Jose Mourinho as the full-time manager at the Lane after a long and drawn-out search in the summer. While Tottenham got off to an excellent start under him, they have not been able to keep up the winning run for long.
A toothless display in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United at home on Saturday could very well have sealed Nuno’s fate. It was not just a performance lacking in results but also hunger and tactical innovation. The truth was that United did not even have to be at their best to win the game.
Spurs have now lost five of their first ten Premier League games this season and are floundering in the tenth spot. Only Norwich City have scored fewer goals than Nuno’s men in the league this season.
The lack of bite up front was visible yesterday night as Son Heung-min was left to do the heavy lifting. Tottenham fans were in an unforgiving mood as well as boos rang out at both half time and full time. Nuno’s decision to take off Lucas Moura also did not go down well with the Spurs faithful.
Nuno has little gratitude in the bag as the club hold emergency talks. He has done little to show that he is the man to take the club forward. The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are miles ahead of us and something has to be done quickly to bridge that gap.
It must be noted that Nuno was not Tottenham’s primary target to take the reins. They arrived at the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man only after being unable to land Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.
Given the money the club spent in the summer, the team should be doing better than what they have so far. With him also apparently having lost the fans, it remains to be seen if there is a way back.

With uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane’s future at the club, also sacking the manager should ask serious questions of Daniel Levy’s leadership of the club. Any semblance of stability off the field is an illusion at the moment and it has also translated to the pitch.
Tottenham have to ensure they have a plan of succession in place rather than go about their often unsuccessful cycle of managerial merry go round. Whether Nuno stays or if he goes, who takes his place remains to be seen.
