Tottenham Hotspur eyeing Antonio Conte to replace Nuno Espirito Santo following Manchester United loss

According to Tutto Mercato (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte to replace an under-fire Nuno Espirito Santo following an abject home loss to Manchester United in the Premier League.

The defeat was Spurs’ fifth in ten league games played so far this campaign. It leaves them in the eighth spot in the Premier League, a rather flattering position given our performances of late.

Tottenham have struggled for goals this season and have outscored only Norwich City in the English top flight. They also failed to make a single effort on goal against United at home, a first in eight years.

Tottenham renew interest Antonio Conte

Fans have already voiced their opinion by booing the manager roundly at both half time and full-time yesterday night. The board too appears to have had enough. They now appear to be desperate to land Conte, a manager they pursued earlier in the summer.

A deal for the Italian fell through and Spurs eventually decided to go with Nuno. Conte is a better tactician and has a more pleasing style of play that can appeal to the Spurs masses. More so, he also has Premier League experience, leading Chelsea to the title in 2017.

Fresh off winning Inter Milan their first Serie A title in 11 years, Conte at 52 has time on his side to rebuild Tottenham. An excellent organizer, he can help bring about an identity to the Lilyshites side lacking one.

Fabio Paratici is familiar with Conte having spent time together with him during the latter’s time at Juventus. Whether it will be enough for him to convince the 52-year-old to take over at the Lane remains to be seen.

Spurs are now being forced to look elsewhere just four months into the rebuild under Nuno. Unless the right man takes up the reins, there is little chance that the club can attain stability on and off the field.

Conte has also been linked with a move to Manchester United to potentially replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian however has been taken away from the firing line following yesterday’s win. Whether it is now Tottenham’s chance to swoop in for the famed Italian remains to be seen.
