Inter Milan defender Stefan De Vrij has denied any links to Tottenham Hotspur at the moment
In conversation with Ziggo Sport, via footballoranje (h/t Football.London), 29-year-old Stefan De Vrij has shot down any links to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Inter Milan centre-back has been linked with a move to the Lilwyhites recently which could see him reunite with old boss Antonio Conte. The Dutch professional footballer has revealed that he doesn’t know anything and the North Londoners haven’t approached him as of yet.
De Vrij has become an instrumental part of the Italian club’s backline in the last few seasons. He has played 139 matches for the Nerazzurri across all competitions during which time he has also managed to score 8 goals and provide 6 assists.
The Dutch defender spoke about the links to Tottenham and was quick to shoot them down:
“I don’t know anything about anything. That connection may be made quickly because the trainer I’ve worked with works there now. But I don’t know anything. He hasn’t approached me about it yet.”
Conte has preferred an intense and attacking style of play that usually demands a lot from any group of players. The Italian manager also prefers to play with a back three. Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are the preferred central defensive partnership at the moment with Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga also playing in that role.
An experienced defender like De Vrij could help steer this backline and bring some more composure to the relatively young defence with Dier being the most experienced at 27. The Dutch defender’s experience at the elite level could also help them get through the big games with much more solidity at the back.

At the moment these rumours don’t seem to hold up with the Dutch professional defender himself clearing the air. That being said, the North London club could be tempted to make a move for a strong central defender in view of Antonio Conte’s tactical preference.
