Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Ledley King gives honest assessment of Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur
In a conversation on the Kelly & Wright Show (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur ambassador Ledley King has shared his thoughts on the appointment of Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites had a tumultuous start to life under Nuno Espirito Santo but there seems to be a bit more optimism after the appointment of the former Inter Milan manager.
Conte has revolutionized teams and his style of play has benefitted clubs from different leagues. He has already stamped his style and is working the players hard with his intense training style and tweaks to the diet plans of the squad.
King spoke about Conte and the kind of change that he is already bringing to the Spurs outfit:
“To have the opportunity to bring someone like Conte into your football club, the opportunity doesn’t come round often. I think the players are already enjoying working under him and we have to see what can be achieved this season.”
“The top four is achievable seeing as Manchester United are struggling at the moment. West Ham are doing well but the club will still have to have a great season to do that but with someone like Conte in charge, they will be looking at that now.”
King spent his entire career at Tottenham Hotspur during his time as a professional footballer. During that time, he made 322 appearances for the North London club, scoring 13 goals and providing 3 assists.
Antonio Conte also prefers to play a back three formation that allows the wing-backs to get higher up the pitch and put more pressure on the opposition during an attack. The 52-year-old may have some work to do at his new club as he tries to get them up to pace with his game.
Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal could be provided more of an essential role under the Italian manager as compared to the Portuguese manager who preferred a more solid approach at the back.
King also insisted that he has seen a change in the intensity of the players under Conte but the manager will need more time if he is to get all his players performing at the same level consistently for a longer period s of time.

The former Spurs player highlights that the former Chelsea manager could work his charm at the club. Despite that, it is necessary to remember that any drastic and strong change would take time. This could mean that the supporters may have to wait just a tad bit more before their club really goes ahead with an attacking style of play.
