Transfer News: Manchester City plan new bid for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the January transfer
According to ESPN, Manchester City are preparing another bid in the January transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
The Citizens were heavily linked to the 28-year-old striker in the summer transfer window but weren’t able to secure a move as the North Londoners managed to hold on to their prized asset. The English striker’s contract with Spurs runs until 2024 and has been slapped with a £150million price tag that City were unwilling to meet in the past.
Kane has been a great servant to his boyhood club till now. He has scored 228 goals and provided 51 assists across 352 appearances across all competitions for the Lilywhites. He has been their chief attacking threat in the last few seasons.
Despite his crazy goal-scoring exploits, the English captain has only been a shadow of his former self. He has struggled to get going in the Premier League for Spurs and has managed only one goal and one assist in 10 matches in the PL this campaign.
The Lilywhites do not have an out-and-out striker to replace Kane. Dane Scarlett is too young to handle that burden at the age of 17.
Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura have played up front and through the middle at times but they aren’t a like-for-like replacement for the English striker. The club also saw Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius leave in recent seasons without ever replacing them with another traditional number 9.
The North London club got the season off to a rocky start under Nuno Espirito Santo but there seems to be renewed enthusiasm after the appointment of Italian manager Antonio Conte. The former Inter Milan manager is known to develop teams and players using an intense style and attacking system.
The former Chelsea boss has been known to transform attackers and the recent rise of Romelu Lukaku at his time in the Nerazzurri is testimony to that. While this could play a great role in Harry Kane staying at North London, the lure of silverware and an evolved style of playing under Pep Guardiola could really be tempting.

Any move for the English striker would be an expensive affair, but a difficult transaction for the Lilywhites. Only the future can tell whether Kane will still be at N17 or whether the Citizens will be able to tempt him out of the London-based club.
