Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to clash with Real Madrid for Franck Kessie of AC Milan
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur will face competition from Real Madrid for the signature of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie. He is one of the four targets that the Madrid club are targeting in the summer including Paul Pogba, Antonio Rudiger, and Kylian Mbappe.
Kessie will see his current contract with Milan come to an end after the 2021-22 season. He will be able to walk as a free agent and is also able to reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in January.
Back in Seria A, the Italian club have given up trying to renew the contract of the 24-year-old and has accepted that he will leave at the end of the season. This would be an opportunity for Spurs to take advantage of should Antonio Conte permit them to go for his services.
The Ivory Coast international would be a useful signing in a midfield where Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks have struggled to make their mark. He could help in solidifying the defensive issues that have plagued the club at times.
However, his profile might be concerning to some since the Italian seems to have taken a liking to the midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp. Conte has deployed formations that have a two-man midfield, but he could try a different system to cater to any potential strengths of the Milan midfielder unless the Ivorian himself displaces one of Skipp or Hojbjerg in the lineup.
With the Los Blancos entering the race, it would be tough to ask Tottenham to battle them head-on. But with the midfield options available at both clubs, we would perhaps be able to offer more gametime considering the lack of world-class quality on our bench.

The North Londoners will also have to deal with Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the Seria A midfielder. If we can sign him, it would elevate the level of our midfield and add more competition which could force others to raise their level.
Should the transfer happen, the benefits could be multiple and would affect several players in the squad in terms of competition and motivation. However, it remains to be seen if Spurs can actually outmuscle competition to bring in the African midfielder at N17.
