Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast (h/t Express), Fabrizio Romano believes that Tottenham Hotspur could look to add a midfielder and striker in the upcoming transfer window.

Antonio Conte took over the Lilywhites at the beginning of this month and will be looking to make a substantial impact on the squad. The former Chelsea manager has been known for his intense attacking style of football that demands a lot out of his players.

The Italian is famous for deploying a back three, which allows him to add more attackers to the team. This gives them more force going forward. It is thus believed that the 52-year-old manager could assess his options until December and then look to make suitable additions at the N-17 in January.

Romano spoke about Spurs and their situation under Conte. He highlighted that the North London club could dip in the market to add a new striker and midfielder:

“He [Conte] wants to trust his team, and then in December, he will decide together with Fabio Paratici what kind of players they need. I would say striker and midfielder are the key positions right now, and let’s see if they also want to go for a centre-back. Antonio Conte always plays with three central defenders, but the next steps are not decided yet.”

These new additions could do the Lilywhites a world of good and help boost competition amongst the squad. Their star striker Harry Kane has been enjoying a great international break with England but has struggled to reproduce that form for Tottenham in the Premier League this campaign.

The 28-year-old striker doesn’t have a like-for-like replacement in terms of experience and ability yet. While Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min have played upfront through the middle, it isn’t their natural position.

Conte would be mindful of this and would want a suitable replacement should Kane not be available due to certain circumstances. The English captain has also been increasingly linked to the likes of Manchester City.

Coming to the midfield, Tanguy Ndombele has been good in parts and pieces but struggles with consistency on occasions. Dele Alli on the other hand has found it tough to maintain a starting position. This could entice the former Juventus coach to find a suitable addition in the middle of the pitch.

New kids on the block?

That being said Spurs are linked with a couple of starlets from Serie A that could be suitable replacements. Franck Kessie and Dusan Vlahovic have both been instrumental parts of AC Milan and ACF Fiorentina respectively.

The former has already played 196 matches for the Rossoneri across all competitions to date whereas the latter has started the season in fine form by scoring 10 goals in 13 games across all competition for La Viola till now.
