Rio Ferdinand has urged Dele Alli to reignite his form under Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking on his podcast Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE (h/t Daily Mail), former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes that Dele Alli may have a great opportunity to prove himself again at Tottenham Hotspur under Antonio Conte.
The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled to cement a starting position with the Lilywhites in the last couple of seasons. Alli started out with a lot of promise under former manager Mauricio Pochettino but has seen his career stagnate for a while now. The Argentine manager even went on to say that the English international was one of the best young footballers in an interview in 2018.
The former MK Dons player only managed to make 15 Premier League appearances last season and only managed to register a single assist during that time. Alli has trailed off and is yet to find that stellar form that he used to demonstrate in his early days at Tottenham.
Rio commented on Dele Alli’s situation. He also highlighted the kind of high standard that Conte demands from his players:
‘I’m sure Dele will be sitting there going, “I’ve got to get it right this time. Conte, he doesn’t suffer fools, he doesn’t accept standards that are below what he sets. So I’m sure this is again a great opportunity. He’s now got a manager who’s going to have huge demands, be demanding of him constantly every day. And that might be the turning point for Dele,’
The English Professional footballer could face tough competition from Tanguy Ndombele who plays in a similar position. The Frenchman has been good in bursts but has also largely struggled to maintain consistency with the Lilywhites.
There has been a lot of ups and downs with Spurs in the last couple of season. They have changed managers and systems which may have left them a little vulnerable at times. Alli was struggling under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo. He has very little to show for his time under the Portuguese manager except for the goal against Wolves in the PL this season.

Conte is known to push his players hard which could be a good thing for the 25-year-old. Only the future can tell how the former MK Dons player will adapt with his new boss at N-17. That being said, the supporters would be hoping that Alli can find his old charm with the North London club because as cliched as it sounds, he would be like a new signing then.
