Antonio Conte praises Tottenham Hotspur star Oliver Skipp and tips him to improve even further

Oliver Skipp was one of the best players for Tottenham Hotspur as he helped them beat Brentford by a 2-0 scoreline, which prompted Antonio Conte to praise him after the game. The midfielder played a slightly different role than usual but had a good display for his side.

Conte had used him in a more advanced role where he got tasked to do more work on the ball and when in possession. Skipp even created a great chance for Harry Kane to score but unfortunately, nothing came of it in the end. There is still room for improvement on the ball and the sentiment was shared by the manager as well.

Speaking in the post-match presser (h/t Football.London), the Italian was delighted with the 21-year-old but mentioned that he could improve even further technically. He also believed that he could make a significant impact and help the Englishman become a more well-rounded midfielder.

“He [Skipp] played with a lot of heart and soul. Today he played well but I think I can improve him a lot in possession technically, but we are talking about a very important prospect and I am happy for him and now we need to continue to improve him.”

“For sure, the part he has to improve is on the ball but in one month I have seen a lot of improvement about Skippy. He can be a top midfielder, but he has to continue to work. He has this will and desire to become an important player.”

Coach’s favourite?

It seems that the Spurs boss has taken a liking to the youngster and has high hopes for him. If he evolves into a complete midfielder, we would be experiencing first-hand how the manager turns his players into world-beaters. It was noticeable at his previous clubs and we hope that it is the case at N17 too.

The Tottenham star has just missed one game for the 52-year-old coach as he was on the sidelines due to picking up a suspension. It shows us how highly the boss rates him and depends on his services to help the team, at least for now.

Conte has an eye for talent and has experience managing some world-class midfielders at clubs like Juventus, Inter Milan, and Chelsea. It is expected that Conte would want to recreate those same levels at Tottenham considering his midfield forms an important part of his set-up. Skipp seems to be a regular in the XI for now, but if he can continue that beyond the January window remains to be seen.
