Celtic told to cut down transfer fee for Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window earlier this year. Celtic have the option to buy him permanently at the end of the term but would have to part ways with £10million in transfer fees.
Having made a good impression since his move, Carter-Vickers has become a fan favourite at the Scottish club. He has played in 17 matches and has seven clean sheets with two goals as a bonus.
Speaking in an interview with Football Insider (h/t Glasgow Times), Danny Mills has tipped the Glasgow-based giants to renegotiate with Tottenham and cut down the asking price for the permanent transfer. He believes Spurs could agree to a cut-price deal, which would help the Celts in this situation.
“It’s a lot of money. He’s going to have to be outstanding for Celtic to pay that. If they sent him back and said ‘Actually, we’ll give you £5million’. Would Tottenham say no? Unlikely.”
“It also depends on what other options they have and of course, what the player wants to do. Does he want to be there? I think £10million is a lot, I’d be going in to renegotiate that.”
A Thorn In The Side?
Mills seems to have a peculiar idea since Spurs are in a win-win situation here. Should the Scottish side decide to take this route, we could deny their offer. And in response, if they do not activate the permanent transfer, we would get a centre-back who has gained valuable experience while being decent with his performances.

Since Antonio Conte uses a three at the back defensive system, depth is essential, and the 23-year-old could play the part for now. It may also facilitate moving Ben Davies to the wing-back position resulting in a domino effect that boosts the squad- if the Italian would ever want to go for that.
And if they do buy him, we could earn a decent sum which could assist us in finding targets for Conte in the transfer windows. It is a win-win situation, and Daniel Levy would be in a strong position if any negotiations do take place.
It remains to be seen what happens with this situation, but whatever fee the club can get for a centre-back that hasn’t managed to crack the starting XI at N17 until now would be somewhat of a bonus.
