Transfer News: Tottenham have joined the race to sign Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Tottenham have shown interest in Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, who is also on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs.
Ousmane Dembele couldn’t live up to the expectations at Barcelona due to his recurring injury problems. This season hasn’t been different, as he has already picked up a knee injury that has kept him out of action for several weeks.
However, the French forward has shown that spark when he features for the Catalan club. At 24, it’s not like he is a finished product and he definitely has a lot of footballing years still ahead of him. It is now believed that Tottenham have joined Manchester United and Newcastle in the race to sign the youngster.
Spurs’ sporting director Fabio Paratici attempted to sign him when he was at Juventus. However, his current intention to land the starlet is even stronger, given that the 24-year-old winger would be a free agent in 6 months.
New manager Antonio Conte has implemented a new set-up that sees enhanced attacking roles from their full-backs. But that hasn’t rendered wingers such as Steven Bergwijn, Son Heung-min, and Lucas Moura useless. Dembele could similarly slot in on the wings besides Spurs’ talismanic number 9, Harry Kane.
We can use a player like the France international in our squad. Not only will he add quality to our team, but also depth. But one major aspect that we need to be careful about would be his injury record. And hence, we must not rush into any deal if we aren’t sure of what we are going to get.
