Transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur eye Chelsea ace Antonio Rudiger in a shock move
According to The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Chelsea superstar Antonio Rudiger. Uncertainties have gathered around over his future which has attracted the interest of several European clubs.
The 28-year-old has been a crucial presence for the Blues since Thomas Tuchel has taken the mantle from Frank Lampard. That has seen him play 20 matches this season with two goals and assists each in his bag. His defensive output earned his club the Champions League trophy last term while making their defence one of the best in England currently.
Rudiger will see his current contract come to an end in the summer of 2022, meaning he could leave for free ahead of next season. He could also reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in the January transfer window. Contract negotiations have stalled between him and the CL holders, which have seen Real Madrid lead the race for his signature.
The Spanish club had a meeting with Sahr Senesie, the German’s agent and brother, two weeks ago and has a verbal agreement in place between them. However, Bayern Munich, who are also interested, have not lost their confidence and still believe they can get him in the future.
The Bavarians met Senesie a week before to convey their offer for the centre-back. Manchester United are a new entrant alongside Tottenham, but he has no preference for moving to another PL club.
Fallacy signing?
With his current affiliations with the West London club, he may not want to leave a bitter impression by moving to a direct rival. That can’t be said for certain but there’s no denying that crossing the boundary that separates Tottenham and Chelsea will be met with fury by the Blues faithful.
That is also something that would make this signing even more exciting for Spurs fans, if it was to ever happen.

Moreover, he has excelled in Tuchel’s three-at-the-back system. While the finer details may differ, Conte deploys a similar defensive set-up at N17. The German international would also be an instant uplift in quality and depth especially when it comes to our options on the bench.
However, controversial transfers have happened in the past, and his signing should never get ruled out until it becomes official. There is no harm in trying to get him, and who knows, there might be an outside chance for us to complete a shock move.
