Tottenham Hotspur to battle against Arsenal and Barcelona for Renato Sanches
According to AS (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle with Arsenal and Barcelona for the signing of LOSC Lille star Renato Sanches.
Despite suffering a muscle injury in the initial part of the season, The Portuguese ace has returned with an incredible set of performances in recent weeks. Sanchez continues to be a key man for the defending champions who are enduring a rather torrid title defence.
His performances have not gone unnoticed with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Spurs all alerted to his talents. At 24, he appears ready to take the next step in his development.
It is believed that Arsenal and Tottenham are the ‘most interested’ clubs to secure his signature. However, Barcelona can rekindle their interest to sign the midfielder, having previously targetted him in the summer.
Tottenham certainly has some talented names in the midfield. However, few of them have lived up to their reputation. Dele Alli was expected to become a superstar at the North London club. However, he has been off-colour for a while now.
On the other hand, Giovani Lo Celso has been out for several weeks due to an injury. His absence has forced Conte to play with a stiff minded midfield. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombélé’s contributions in attacking transitions have been limited.
After the arrival of Antonio Conte, he has worked with the resources at his disposal. However, reinforcements are needed to bolster the current Tottenham squad.
Sanches has proved to be an extremely talented individual. He rose to fame in 2016 when he gave some scintillating performances for Benfica. The then-teenager was called up by Portugal’s EURO squad and won the Young Player of the Tournament award and the Golden Boy trophy that season.

This earned him a high profile move to Bayern Munich. It did not go as planned and he suffered from a loss of form and injuries that saw him fall off the radar. It is fair to say that Sanches has done well to resurrect his reputation and career.
Still just 24, he has the prime of his career ahead of him and could be an excellent addition to Conte’s Tottenham side. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
