Tottenham Hotspur lead the transfer race for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale ahead of next summer
According to Super Deporte (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are in the lead regarding a future transfer for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale in the summer of 2022. He had a loan spell at Spurs last year, where he had a rather solid campaign, all things said.
The Welshman is currently out with a calf injury which he picked up during the international break. He missed a large amount of the current season after he featured only in the first three games for Madrid. Injuries have continued to plague him in recent times.
The 32-year-old initially left Tottenham for Los Blancos after £85million was paid for his services in the summer of 2013. He was one of the best players during that time and continued to take his game to the next level at the Santiago Bernabeu.
His current contract with Real will expire at the end of the season, which has prompted several clubs to turn their attention towards him.
Spurs are leading the race for a summer move, and if it is finalised, we could get him on a free transfer. However, we would still incur costs in the form of his wages and a possible signing bonus usually associated with a free transfer.
Antonio Conte was an admirer of the Real forward during his time at Inter Milan, but a move never materialised. He could have the opportunity to finally get his man if a positive outcome is at the end of this road.
Good idea?
If we do re-sign Bale, he could be a quality addition to our squad should he keep his fitness. Bale’s injury history is a concern and, with him being in the latter stages of his career, a long contract with high wages might not be the best idea.

If Fabio Paratici could reduce the financial risk involved, a move for Bale could prove to be a shrewd one. His versatility could help Conte find more options for his system at Tottenham.
Our depth is questionable, as it has been proved during the defeat against NS Mura. There is a considerable gap between the main squad and the backups who play a substitute role to help when needed. The Welsh attacker’s quality would assist us in bridging that gap while competing with the heavyweights.
