Former Spurs player suggests Tottenham should renew the contract of Hugo Lloris and makes David de Gea comparison
Hugo Lloris will see his contract with Tottenham Hotspur expire at the end of the season, and former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has advised the club to renew the contract by using David De Gea as an example.
The Frenchman has been a long-standing serviceman and has been ever-present through the highs and lows of Tottenham. However, with his contract expiring next summer, there is uncertainty surrounding his future, which has understandably raised concerns among the fans. He continues to play at the top level and has been one of our better performers throughout this year.
Speaking in an interview with Football Insider (h/t Football.London), Robinson has urged his former club to offer a new deal to the skipper while explaining why he thinks they should take that decision.
“I don’t see why the club wouldn’t offer him a new deal. He is back to his best. The 12-18 months before the Euros there was a question as to whether he should have been playing. He has rediscovered his form though. I’d say him and De Gea have had a similar plight.”
“Lloris has been brilliant this season. If you want to replace him you are going to have to pay a lot of money. There is not many goalkeepers of his calibre around. If Lloris is still fit and healthy why would you not offer him a new deal? I think they can get two or three years out of him.”
PERFECT!
The France international has shown no signs of any decline recently. He was questionable at times in the past, but things are different currently. He could still offer a lot to us, and an extension should be signed to prolong his stay. Pierluigi Gollini has not been able to displace the Spurs captain, which is a nod to the former’s quality.

Most importantly, we need to back Antonio Conte with the right signings, which would demand that we are as efficient as possible with our money. Having already recorded losses in the latest financial year, we must be wise with our resources and focus on areas that need urgent replenishment.
As the France international is still playing at the top level, we should renew his contract and postpone the expense required to replace him. It doesn’t have to be a long-term contract, but a deal that can keep him at the club for a bit longer until we can figure out what we will do with the goalkeeper situation once he leaves.
