Transfer News: Juventus looking to offload Weston McKennie amid recent interest from Tottenham
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t NBC Sports), Juventus are intending to sell Weston McKennie in the January transfer window amidst recent interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Weston McKennie has proven to be a talented midfielder at Juventus. The USMNT player has given some eye-catching performances in recent seasons. He has already scored two times in 11 Serie A appearances this term. However, despite his best efforts, the American hasn’t reached the highest level of consistency.
On the other hand, Juventus are looking to generate some funds to invest in the reform work led by Italian manager, Max Allegri. Thus, it is believed that the Old Lady have decided to sell the 23-year-old starlet, who has been linked with Spurs.
It seems that the North London team has kept a tab on the player’s situation. It is also believed that Tottenham even sent scouts to watch his game at Turin in recent times. And thus, Juve’s intentions to sell McKennie would come as music to Conte’s ears.
Dele Alli’s performance has attracted scrutiny in recent times. The 25-year-old midfielder’s influence has remained limited despite a couple of good weeks under Jose Mourinho. He was back to being average this season and as a result, Conte has not really trusted the Englishman to start regularly.
On the other hand, Giovani Lo Celso has been sidelined after suffering from a knee injury earlier this season. The absence of the Argentine international has increased the pressure on Conte.
The Italian manager has been starting Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, much like all managers before him. The industrious Dane has been a regular fixture in Spurs’ PL starting XI ever since he signed from Southampton. In McKennie, he could have a viable partner in the centre of the pitch.

If not that, we could have an acclaimed player manning the benches for now before he can take over the mantle of a regular starter. In either situation, Spurs are the winner.
With skilful ball control and a creative edge, the youngster has shown a spark that would benefit a team like Spurs struggling to create a lot from central midfield. If our interest in him is serious, we should not waste any time and use Juve’s apparent desperation for funds as a way of luring him to N17.
