Newcastle United are the front runners to sign Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur

According to Sky Bet (h/t Shieldsgazette), Newcastle United have emerged as the most likely loan destination for out of favour Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli

The Englishman’s career trajectory has taken a sharp drop in recent seasons. A two-time PFA Young Player of the Year Award winner, he is now the forgotten man for both club and country.

The British midfielder got a considerable amount of chance at the starting of the season under axed manager Nuno Espírito Santo. However, he couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.

Nevertheless, new Spurs manager Antonio Conte hasn’t shown his complete trust in the British midfielder. Under the Italian manager’s watch, the player only got a two-minute cameo against Leeds United in the Premier League. His lack of game time has sparked speculation regarding his Spurs future.

Newcastle United has been a long time admirer of the Spurs midfielder. It is believed that The Magpies came close to signing Alli in 2018 when he was still playing for MK Dons. Nevertheless, the move didn’t happen, and the then-teenager joined the North London team.

However, it seems after rekindling their interest in the 25-year-old, they are closing in to lure him in a loan deal in the January transfer window.

Alli’s misfortune has been a boon to both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp this season. However, both of them isn’t as active in the final third as the 25-year-old. Entering his time, Alli should be playing the best games of his career.

However, he appears to have forgotten how to grab a game by the scruff of the neck. Whether a change ins scenery can help rekindle the flame in him remains to be seen.
