Tottenham Hotspur tipped to sell Joe Rodon in the January transfer window
Joe Rodon played just one game under Antonio Conte, which has prompted Danny Murphy to tip Tottenham Hotspur to sell him in the January transfer window. His career has come to a standstill since joining the team in 2020.
Rodon was signed from Swansea City for a transfer fee of £11million excluding add-ons last year. He has hardly put a foot wrong since moving to N17 but could not get into the team under various managers.
Speaking in an interview with Football Insider (h/t Football.London), Murphy suggested that Conte does not value the 24-year-old, which makes a potential sale in the winter transfer window sensible.
“I think we’ve seen a few signings like that, panic buys which haven’t quite worked out. Those types of players are rarely a good long-term fit and can’t really play the right type of football. He’s been there a year. He hasn’t managed to establish himself in any way and Conte clearly doesn’t fancy him. He has to accept it’s time to move on.”
Tough luck
It is tough to see the Welshman in this situation without having many chances to prove himself. One might feel hard done by for him and would want the very best for him in the future. It has to be a case of the lack of need of his profile as he was solid whenever he has played.
The Tottenham defender only featured in the game against NS Mura under the Italian manager but was substituted in the second half. Davinson Sanchez played alongside him, but he did not get brought off despite having a howler of a performance. The latter was even responsible to an extent for the embarrassing loss in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Sanchez was continued to be trusted by the 52-year-old manager, and he has shown some improvements recently. That was not the case for the Wales international, who has failed to get more game time since playing against Mura. He was solid overall in that game and got subbed off despite the Colombian being on the pitch.
In trying to make sense of this situation, the only explanation can be that his profile is not a preference for the Spurs coach. It is not a question of quality as he has even been impressive for his national team during international duty. So his profile has to be the only sensible reason.
If that is the case and the Tottenham boss believes the defender cannot suit his tactics, the North London club should do everything to find a suitable club for him. We kind of feel obliged to help him during this plight as he was not even put a foot wrong for us.
