Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie has informed AC Milan about his departure
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Daily Express), Tottenham target Franck Kessie has communicated his intention to AC Milan about leaving the club in the summer.
Franck Kessie has been a star performer for AC Milan in the last few seasons. The Ivorian international has appeared in 14 league matches this season and significantly impacted the Rossoneri’s success. Furthermore, the 25-year-old midfielder also bagged three goals in this campaign.
Tottenham has shown interest in Kessie in recent times. Now, Spurs could be handed a significant boost in their pursuit to land the midfielder for free in the summer. It is believed that the 25-year-old has informed his team that he doesn’t want to continue after the end of his current contract.
Tottenham has been hugely reliant on Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg in recent times. Antonio Conte has been starting the inexperienced Oliver Skipp in midfield due to the absence of Giovani Lo Celso, while Harry Winks continues to struggle for minutes after showing very little to convince the Italian to make him a regular starter.
Kessie comes from a league that Conte knows a lot about. He experienced immense success during his time at Juventus and Inter Milan, and would have had the chance to observe Kessie closely during the Milan derbies in the past two years.
He would certainly be a welcome addition to our team. He wasn’t at his best when Milan took on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League stages this season, but the Ivory Coast international has shown enough to warrant a place in our matchday squad if we do end up signing him.

The competition he would add for places would be invaluable, and his combative nature would offer some steel in the middle of the park. Hojbjerg has been a fixed name in our league starting XI since his move from Southampton, so it’s likely that Kessie would partner, rather than replace him, if he were to sign for us.
The current Covid-19 crisis in our camp serves as a reminder that our team is susceptible, like any other team in the world, to players being unavailable for selection due to fitness issues. At such a time, quality in depth matters a lot and it is important we strengthen our team without losing some of the important first-team names in our squad. And if he turns out to be a free transfer, that would be the icing on the cake.
