Transfer News: Chelsea are leading the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool target Gleison Bremer
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea are front runners to sign Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool target, Gleison Bremer, who is valued at £15million.
Gleison Bremer has consistently given Torino solid performances in the last few seasons. The Brazilian has made 16 appearances in Serie A this term and has become a key player for the Italian side. He has even earned the Captain’s armband at the Turin-based club recently due to his leadership qualities.
Tottenham have been interested in the 24-year-old in recent times. But it seems Chelsea have emerged as the most likely destination for the Brazilian. It is believed that the defender would join Thomas Tuchel’s team ‘imminently.’
Tottenham are currently putting out a 3-man backline with Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sánchez. Antonio Conte has preferred such a system over the years. But his current squad has failed to provide him with many options, especially with Cristian Romero’s injury.
The Argentine’s fitness issue has pushed the Italian manager to start Sánchez. However, the Columbian’s performances have been volatile over the years. Indeed, the much-hyped signing from Ajax has failed to live up to the expectations for Spurs fans.
Tottenham were leaking goals before the Covid-19 outbreak within the club’s camp, and Antonio Conte should be concerned about the defensive performances. With regards to the options and quality in his backline, the former Inter Milan manager certainly doesn’t have the flexibility he had back in Italy.
Gleison Bremer, however, has proved his worth in Serie A. In Inter’s title-winning season, the Brazilian ace had a successful stint at Torino and the Italian manager would have had a closer look at his performances considering he played in the same league as Conte’s team. The 24-year-old could make a successful partnership with Romero and Dier in the back.

However, he doesn’t have any English football experience and how he adapts to the Premier League setting remains to be seen. But as Conte knows the Italian league well, he could be able to find a solution to get the best out of the South American defender.
Getting him from under the noses of a rival team in Chelsea would be even sweeter. The Blues also field a formation with three centre-backs and could use a young, solid defender like Bremer. But if we want to regain our status as a top 4 club in England, we cannot be bullied in the market by our rivals and must make sure we back our manager when it comes to signings.
