Manchester City leading the race to sign Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic
According to the newspaper La Repubblica, as relayed by Firenze Viola through Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has identified Tottenham Hotspur target Dusan Vlahovic as the ideal striker for his team.
Dusan Vlahovic has been one of the best young forwards in Europe this season. By bagging 15 goals in 17 appearances, the Serbian striker has taken the Serie A’s scoring charts by a storm; and that has naturally attracted many top teams.
The striker’s contract ends in 2023, and there is massive speculation over his future. The Serbian hasn’t penned down a new deal, and big teams are lining up to take advantage of the situation. It is believed that along with Tottenham, fellow European giants Arsenal, Juventus and Manchester City are also interested.
But now it is believed that Pep Guardiola has identified Dusan Vlahovic as the ‘perfect striker’ and Manchester City are currently ahead of the other teams to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
Tottenham’s star forward, Harry Kane, has been going through a challenging phase of his illustrious career. The England captain has only netted one goal in 13 appearances in the Premier League and seems like he has lost his scoring touch in the league this season.
Son Heung-min is among the goals for us so far, but he plays out wide. Lucas Moura has deputized as a centre-forward at times but he isn’t really a natural number 9. We also saw the back of Carlos Vinicius Jr this summer without replacing him with an out-and-out striker to deputize for Kane.
Conte used a two-striker formation in the past, most notably at Juventus and Inter Milan. His strike partnership of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez resulted in their first Scudetto for nearly a decade last season. There is no reason why he can’t try out that system here at N17 too.

In such a situation, Vlahovic could have an immediate impact on Spurs. The Serbian has already made his aggressive intent clear. He could team up with Kane up front to create a lethal partnership in the short term.
Kane’s value as a playmaker was also clear last season and a finisher like Vlahovic can thrive off service like that. It remains to be seen what happens with this deal but if we can fend off competition from clubs such as City, Vlahovic would be a very smart signing, especially keeping the future in mind.
