Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur target Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez amidst Leeds United interest
According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur have identified Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez as a transfer target amidst interest from Leeds United. He is eyeing a move elsewhere as his side are struggling at the bottom of the Serie A table.
Nandez has a release clause worth €36million, but it is unlikely that the fee would be met by any of the interested parties. An able operator in central midfield, there appears to be no shortage of interested parties for him.
The 25-year-old has been crucial for the Serie A team since moving to the club in 2019. He was important in ensuring that they survived the relegation battle last year and he has been a shining light in a grim Cagliari side this term as well.
Interesting signing?
Since the move, the Uruguayan has featured 88 times for his side across all competitions and has scored four goals with nine assists to add to it. It remains to be seen if we remain interested in the midfielder even if some of our fringe stars start impressing Conte with their performances.
Last weekend turned the tide for stars like Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele, who had great showings against Liverpool. Harry Wink was arguably the best player and he has built on the earlier promise to climb his way up from the fringes of the squad.
While one match would not make a significant difference, that being against one of the title favourites tells a lot to us. Should they continue to improve on the display ahead of the January transfer window, they could reignite their careers at N17.
If Antonio Conte decides that another addition in midfield is needed, we could see Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici try their hand for the Uruguay star in the coming transfer windows. If we go down that route, Paratici and Conte’s experience of operating in Italy’s top-flight could come in handy.

We would be benefited from the situation that Gli Isolani are in right now as Nandez would certainly want to play for a club fighting for titles rather than battling the drop. It remains to be seen if we sign Nandez in the near future.
But if we do, it would be interesting to see what plans the former Inter Milan and Juventus manager has for him and if he would replace, partner, or cover for one of our current central midfielders.
