Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to battle several Premier League clubs for Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson

According to Daily Mail Online, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle several Premier League clubs for the potential transfer of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson. He has shown a steady progression and reached newer heights over the past two years.

Tottenham will face heavy competition from PL rivals like Brentford, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United for Johnson’s services. A transfer in January could be on the cards despite Forest engaging in a battle to win promotion to the first division.

The Championship club are ready to part ways with the 20-year-old if their valuation of £20million is met by any of the interested parties. Spurs would have to make a quick decision on the matter, considering how the competitors are eager to get their man.

Future Prospect?

The Welshman has been impressive in the second division this campaign by contributing to his team’s chances of a potential promotion to the PL. He was also excellent last season on loan at Lincoln City in League One. If anything he appears to be developing nicely.

The youngster has scored 13 goals alongside 14 assists from 48 appearances throughout his time with The Imps. This season he has a goal output of five goals and four assists, having featured in 23 matches across all competitions.

There would be concerns among some that we should not spend such an amount on an upcoming prospect. They would most probably point to the situation of Jack Clarke and how he has not justified the fee that we paid for him. Dilan Markanday of our U23 team could also be used to make a case that we do not need to go down this route.

Markanday is an exciting academy prospect, and he could fulfil the potential he is showing currently, moving forward. However, he does not have the experience of playing in a senior team as the Championship star has.

Antonio Conte has used a midfield of three in the game against Liverpool, and we could see something similar in the coming matches. As such, if any one of our fringe players does not take their chances in the future, we would need to bring in someone exciting to be a part of our new project under Conte.

Johnson is far from a finished product, but under proper guidance and care, he could become one of the best youngsters who are coming up recently. And he could facilitate that at N17 should he decide to move in the coming transfer windows. Time will tell us where he would end up, considering how January is just on the horizon.
