Harry Winks could now stay at Tottenham Hotspur in January after impressing Antonio Conte

According to Evening Standard, Harry Winks could stay at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the January transfer window despite his previous intention to find an exit route.

Harry Winks wasn’t a favourable choice for axed manager Nuno Espírito Santo. The 25-year-old only managed 61 minutes in the league before Conte’s arrival and didn’t get many chances under the Portuguese manager’s watch.

The lack of game time naturally created speculation around his Tottenham future. It was believed that the academy graduate was eyeing a move away from the North London club in the January transfer window.

But after the arrival of Antonio Conte seems to have changed things. The British midfielder has capitalized on every chance provided by the Italian manager. The 25-year-old played a vital role against Liverpool recently in a 2-2 draw and seems like he has found his feet again.

Winks’ rejuvenation in form has received deserved appreciation from the former Inter Milan manager, and it seems he could have a busy second half in this campaign. These recent chances have also altered his previous decision of leaving the club in January. It is believed that the British midfielder is likely to stay put.

Antonio Conte is using Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg and Oliver Skipp in midfield. But Skipp lacks experience and Winks is vital in that regard- to provide competition to the youngster. The lack of depth in central midfield is evident.

However, Harry Winks’s form could become a massive advantage for the former Inter Milan manager. The 25-year-old could form a partnership with Höjbjerg in the central midfield area. There is no real reason for Winks to leave in January anymore, and hence, it won’t be a surprise if he ends this season with us.

We did get eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League rather undeservingly this month, but there is still a lot to fight for domestically. And if Winks’ recent performances are anything to go by, he is a player we would rely on to give us control in midfield in tough games.
