Tottenham Hotspur keen on landing Juventus star Weston McKennie in January
According to the Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur are planning a move for Weston McKennie in the January transfer window and could tempt Juventus into selling should the right offer be made
He has been impressive in Italy since moving from Germany and, he has been a regular this season. The American offers a more dynamic alternative to Arthur Melo and Adrien Rabiot in midfield.
Massimiliano Allegri has relied on the services of McKennie, and he would be against any potential transfer. However, the financial crisis that Juve are going through could force their hand if the right offer is made.
A bid between €30million and €35million could be enough to tempt the Bianconeri into selling their midfielder. Antonio Conte has personally asked for his services as he seeks a versatile midfielder for his squad.
Future signing?
Conte would have had a closer insight into the American when he was the manager of Inter Milan. As such, it would not be wise to go against the desire of the Spurs coach. If he believes that the 23-year-old could be an asset for us, then the club should do their part in assisting his wishes.
The Juventus star has had a slightly “disappointing” season compared to his previous one but, most of it is down to how the entire team has underperformed. The Italian boss is known for getting the best out of his players, and he could do a similar job with the North American at the N-17.
Conte’s efforts have rubbed off on Davinson Sanchez and Oliver Skipp with both players stepppping up their performances. Others in the squad, like Harry Winks, are also going through a similar trajectory.

McKennie’s ability to play in different positions will be an added bonus. That gives the 52-year-old manager more freedom to be flexible with his formations and tactics depending on the situation.
The Tottenham boss has already utilised the 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 formations at N17 and, we could continue to see different variations of it with the Juve star in our squad. He could do what Arturo Vidal did under Conte during their time together at Turin and Inter. Time will tell whether we could finalise a move in the winter transfer window or wait until the summer to renew our pursuit.
