Tottenham Hotspur battle Jose Mourinho and AS Roma for Manchester United midfielder Charlie Wellens

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Jose Mourinho and AS Roma for the services of the Manchester United midfielder Charlie Wellens. Mourinho eyed the youngster when he was the coach at Spurs and is doing the same in Italy.

Wellens has been excellent for Man United in the Premier League 2 division but could have better chances of breaking into the first team elsewhere. Tottenham and Roma could engage in a war for the signature of the Man United starlet in January or the 2022 summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old was previously subjected to interest from Inter Milan last year, but a move never came to fruition. A bidding war could take place in the coming transfer windows if both parties are actively interested in signing him.

Young blood for the future?

The Englishman has shown himself to be a versatile option who can play in a variety of positions this season. He was mostly used as a right-back but could also play as a left-back when needed. His versatility extends in midfield as well in positions such as a defensive midfielder and a right-sided wide-man.

The Red Devils youngster has featured in 14 matches in the youth league and has scored once while making four assists. The tendency to get involved in goals is always a bonus for a midfielder in modern-day football. That perfectly compliments the technical abilities that he possesses.

Charlie Wellens could move to Roma or Tottenham.

Should we sign the Man United starlet, he would most likely join our youth team setup before hopefully getting promoted to the first team. Antonio Conte has a proven track record in the game and could assist the player in reaching further heights.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming days as the winter transfer window draws close. He could be a successful signing in the future if his growth is properly managed moving forward. However, for that to happen, we need our current manager to get the better of the former one.
