Tottenham Hotspur fans react as Antonio Conte’s men are held to a draw by Southampton

It was not the result we wanted but Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Saint Mary’s.

Antonio Conte looked to be on a roll and made little changes to the team that obliterated Crystal Palace on Boxing Day. Dele Alli, Ben Davies, and Harry Winks came into the side while Oliver SkippJaphet Tanganga, and Lucas Moura were afforded some rest.

Spurs would have liked to get on the front foot, but it was all Southampton in the opening 20 minutes. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min had to play on the counter but could not find any success in doing so. The home fans were cheering on the Saints, and 5 minutes before the half-hour mark, James Ward Prowse scored an absolute gem of a volley following a long throw-in.

Conte got raging on the touchline, and his side immediately gained control of the ball. And then our men found an opening 5 minutes before half-time as Son found himself into the penalty box and put himself on the wrong side of Mohammed Salisu, who had already received a yellow card for a previous foul.

Off night?

Later, Doherty also thought he had scored after clashing with Fraser Foster for a looping ball. But the referee called it a foul, and the two sides remained level. The gaffer then chunked on Moura and Bryan Gil, and the latter was full of enthusiasm. He created several chances only for the attackers to spur them.

Tottenham prodded on until the last minute, but the hosts held their ground and churned out a draw. The result means that we are now 6th on the table, behind West Ham and Arsenal, although we have 2 games in hand.

Let us now see how some fans reacted on Twitter to our side being held by a 10-man Ralph Hasenhuttl-led side.
